Stop Playing A Part That Doesn’t Suit You Saturday Prompt

Today’s Saturday Prompt is brought to you by Stop Playing A Part That Doesn’t Suit You.

In As You Like It Shakespeare wrote: “All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players.”

As a writer I can create any character I want to. As a person, I can be anything I want to be, no matter how outlandish. You have the same ability and opportunities.

With all that power, why do we choose to take roles other people hand to us?

I struggled with this for years. Playing characters that fit other people’s ideas of who they thought I should be. I realised I was doing it to be accepted, liked, loved, or listened to. I ignored those who took me just as I was, fighting for the attention of stage directors more interested in everything but my wellbeing.

I am the leading lady in my life. You are the lead actor in yours.

Forget roles that aren’t meant for you. Come on, you can tell which ones are wrong just reading the scripts can’t you? Pick and choose like your happiness depends on it, cause you get to do that. Don’t accept less.

Stop playing a part that doesn’t suit you :).
