Monday Insights: Let The Past Stay There

past1The past is something none of us can run away from. We all have one, things that have shaped us into the people we are and, experiences good and bad.

Constantly dwelling there as the present dances around us and the future waits for us to arrive, pushes us into a negative space that honestly our lives don’t deserve to have to deal with.

pastEven if we think that the past was better and that’s why we go there too often, staying there for too long means that we aren’t giving ourselves time to have new and better experiences. If it’s because it wasn’t that great and we’re allowing ourselves to give into sadness, anger and the like because of it, that’s even more reason to stop.

Yes, I know it isn’t easy. I know. I’m not trying to say we can wave Harry’s wand and have all the memories disappear and it isn’t about forgetting memories in the first place. It’s about moving on and living in the now.

nowWe have to let the past stay right where it is — behind us.

  1. I couldn’t agree more. We can use the past as a guide to learn from, the more we hang on to it, the more we prevent ourselves from moving forward 🙂

    1. Sorry for the late reply and yes, I like how you call it a ‘guide to learn from’ as that’s exactly what it is.

I too have to constantly remember not to dwell there.

      Thanks for commenting Joe :)!
