Random Wednesdays: Fantasy Snippet

To be, or not to be a prologue. This is a constant debate among writers and my simple stance is that if it seems like a necessary part of the story, leave it in. The snippet I’ll share with you today is the brief prologue for an adult science fantasy work I’m considering shopping (agents, publishers, etc). Until I’m sure what I’m doing with it, I’d rather not reveal the name. For now, enjoy the nameless ^_^.

universe2~ Yes. The smile came from deep and spread across their entire being like a soft glow. Happiness. That was what it was. They had forgotten, an emotion they had created but hardly had use for. It was just overwhelming at times. Dealing with the enduring madness, boring little things that ran about their business unknowingly watched, little pieces on their giant chess board that they could choose to move around, but seldom did. Why? Why should they care? These things never paid respect to them, worshipped every other being than the ones they truly should. So yes, they would play now; open their enormous playground, their universe, where anything could happen. ~

  1. Depends. I use them a lot, but usually they tell a backstory that took place years before or a different perspective from the rest of the book. Most the time, I concur that they are often unnecessary, but I think, in some cases, they can be important or even indespensible.=)
