Random Wednesdays: Excerpt (After Birth)

Look out for the cover reveal for my upcoming release the YA paranormal/fantasy Secrets of the Tenari next Wednesday *woohoo*! Today though, I want to share a super short excerpt from a science fiction manuscript that I’ve added to on and off over the years, and hope to finish in 2013. Enjoy :).

mum&baby~He made no sound. This in itself was unusual. Mothers would hold their heads in pain when their babies called to them in those few seconds after birth, when the women were weakened. But the boy was quiet as if in deep thought, his absolute silence almost eerie. His mother smiled down at him. There was no father to speak of — he was lost to the resistance. Her memory of his father distorted as she showed the image to the boy. He looked in wonderment at this woman, dark hair framing her angular features. He felt her joy, a sweet sensation that made him feel safe.~
