Random Wednesdays: Achilles’ Heel

The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan has been escaping me for over two years. It isn’t because I can’t find it (the books are sitting comfortably on my bookshelf), I just haven’t been able to get past the first 5 or 6 pages yet. Oh, and I want to, as the summaries are right up my alley. A friend told me that same series took him many months to conquer the beginning as well, but when he did, it was completely worth it.

Right now that’s my reader Achilles’ heel, what’s yours?

  1. Thanks to my daughter I’ve seen it three times and have purchased the movie. She thinks Captain America is a cutie and has several of the toys. My mom likes Thor. Me, I just want all the powers (insert evil laugh here).

  2. I’m sure you’ll have better luck than me. It just wasn’t my thing. 🙂 Love Captain America and all the other Avengers by the way, especially the Hulk!

  3. Oh, I hate it when that happens. A book has to grab me within the first two or three chapters or it’s toast! I generally know right off the bat if it’ll make the grade but will sometimes give it the benefit of the doubt anyways. The Host by Stephanie Meyers was like that for me. I kept hearing how good it was but could never make it through more than eight chapters without tossing it to the side and picking up something else. Tried three times and never did finish it.

    1. I wanted to read that one (The Host), will see if I do any better lol.

But yea, I’m one of those long-suffering readers/watchers, so I’ll usually give things the full haul, but with that particular book I just get stumped. I will conquer it one day though *does the Captain America stance*.
